What to look for when choosing a brokerage/realtor... Why ethics is so important.

When thinking about buying or selling a home, one would benefit from having a real estate agent in their corner. The decision of what realtor to go with is a tough one due to the vast amount of brokerages to choose from. The question of the matter is… which one is perfect for you? When making the biggest decision of your life, picking any old realtor or brokerage will not do you any good. Weigh out the pros and cons, do your research, find out the terms, conditions and policies of each brokerage. A quality brokerage is one that strives to meet the needs of their clients and lives by the code of ethics.

The Realtor Code of Ethics is the foundation of the National Association of Realtors; it guides realtors and shows clients the level of commitment, education and dedication that there is to their profession.

A quality brokerage will make sure that all of their realtors follow the code of ethics, to name a few, here are some things you should expect when choosing a realtor:

  • Primary Duty to Client:
    • A realtor will protect and promote the interest of his or her client.
    • A realtor will disclose to his or her client at the earliest time any information regarding or related to the transaction.
    • A realtor will maintain client and realtor confidentiality and will not use any information of the client to the client’s disadvantage.

Ethics is the basis to any trusting relationship; this is why abiding to the code of ethics is so important to all brokerages. Not only will it help in the building and growth of loyal clientele, this in turn will benefit both parties the realtor’s business/reputation and the client’s satisfaction in their payment of professional advisory services.
